IELTS – SPEAKING SECTION
1. Understand the Scoring Criteria:
The evaluation criteria for IELTS speaking has also been open to public. Similar to Writing part of the IELTS test, it is important for you to understand how you will be evaluated in the Speaking section to achieve your desired band score.
2. Vocabulary:
Use a wide range of terms and phrases to demonstrate your language proficiency, and express your ideas clearly.
3. Pronunciation:
This is one of the most important aspects of speaking, which proves your communication skills. Instead of worrying about your accent, focus on pronunciation and intonation.
4. Develop Confidence:
Avoid memorizing sentences and phrases as examiners can spot it. Try to practice with your friends and family by recording Parts 1, 2, and 3, so you can listen and identify areas for improvement.
5. Timer / Stop Watch:
You need to be able to think and respond quickly to meet the demands of Speaking test. Use a timer or stop watch to keep track of time and avoid getting carried away when speaking.
6. Practice:
English may not be the first language for many test takers, but the more you practice, the better you shall get at Speaking. Practice speaking in English daily, whether it is with friends or family. You can also consider join an English-Speaking Club or Group to practice with others.
7. Be Yourself:
Try to speak naturally and avoid fake accents as you will only be tested on your ability to communicate effectively.
